Shankill RC Model Flying Club News 2009
Believe it or not, here is the winner of this years Turkey and Ham competition!
One reason for his success is Brian managed a touch and go by bashing his plane off the ground at a ferocious speed to get it back into the air (that was cool).
And here is another big reason :-)
Neil Agnew and I were sharing my Cougar and I managed to crash it on the first touch and go, so that knocked two of us out.
We still managed to come second and third respectively.
Colin Block was flying a 10 inch foam electric that could only fly backwards in the breeze and John Armstrong was flying a powered glider that didn't have a throttle.
All in all a fun day with a load of laughs.
We also had this nice electric heli impress us with it's quietness.

Well, if the up-rooted trees flying past your window didn't give you the idea that the
T&H is off then this is official confirmation :-)
We will try again next Sunday. Same time, same place, same station.
Don't forget the Christmas get-together tomorrow night at Brady's.
Fun-Fly
Sunday December the 6th. at 12 noon.
Calling all meat eaters (OK then, vegetarians too) for an afternoon of side splitting
madness at the field. For those not familiar, this event is handicapped to ensure that
anybody can win, regardless of talent, though handicaps are not normally required! The
sole objective of this event is to get a good crowd at the field to have a few saussies
for brunch then let loose with crazy competition maneuvers purely for the fun of it.
Favorites from the past have been:
· Climb & Glide - Take off, climb for 30 seconds and glide as long as possible on the stopwatch
· Spot landing - land as close to a mark on the field as possible
· Egg drop - Take off and drop a golf ball as close to a marker as possible
· Touch & Go's - Take off and land as many times as you can in 30 seconds - Guaranteed model wrecker!
For those
interested, there is no news on the indoor flying as of yet. I will post here when there
is. In the meantime, if anyone knows of a site more suitable than the one we are in now
and wants to organize its use, please let me know.
It is that time
again.....
This years Turkey and Ham Fun-Fly competition will be held on Sunday December the 6th.
at 12 noon.
Anybody can enter as long as you have a plane to fly or can beg borrow or steal one. It
is not hard to do and there are maneuvers for all levels.
The committee would
like to invite all members, friends and family to an informal get together in Brady's pub
in Shankill on Monday the 7th of December.
Mostly for a few drinks and some food if you want it, but there will also be a raffle
Where the 1st prize is a years free membership in the club. Second price is a bottle of
wine and third is a box of chocolates.
Tickets cost €10 each, but you get a second one free.
Phone Terry 087 774 2977 for tickets or they can be bought on the night.
The night starts from 8 PM and the draw is at 9 PM.

The BAR-B-Q went off without a hitch today and was well attended. I will have some
pictures either tonight or tomorrow.
I just wanted to get this up because someone left two lipo batteries on the field. They
can claim them by phoning 087 774 2977 and identifying them.

Well we are going to try again this weekend.
The BBQ and Fly-In will start at 11 AM on the 13th.

Play it again Sam...... Yes the BBQ is canceled again.
We have deferred the Scale Association fly-in to later in the year when there are no
clashes with other events and we hope to re-run our own club fly-in an barbecue on the
same date. You will receive an email inviting you to this event once dates and weather
permit.

Well guess what.... Yup, you guessed it, the BBQ is off again because of the
weather.
It will be on at the same time next Sunday if doesn't snow or anything like that!

Due to the bad
forecast for this weekend, the Scale Association Fly-In and the Bar-B-Q will be
re-scheduled for next week.
